Hitting the Expertise Cap

Post by Zinko » Tue Dec 18, 2007 3:16 pm

So I know I have been trying to figure out how I plan on hitting the expertise cap (which is supposed to be at about 23) and I am sure you have been as well. There are only 5 items in the game currently that will increase your expertise. Those are:

http://www.wowhead.com/?item=30058" target="_blank
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=32254" target="_blank
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=32280" target="_blank
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=33296" target="_blank
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=33516" target="_blank

You need to use a combination of 3 of these in order to reach the cap since you get 6 from defiance, however really you only have 4 to choose from since you can't really DW while tanking 8) Anyway I have been looking over combinations basically trying to decide what would be the over all most beneficial choice between these items. Here's what I was looking at:

Combo One: Badge Bracers, Badge Neck, T6 gloves.

Armor: 1844
Stamina: 158
Str: 18
Dodge Rating: 27
Block Rating: 27
Block Value: 0
Defense Rating: 55 (2.75% Avoidance)
Expertise Rating: 43
Hit Rating: 22
Tank Points: 34998

Combo Two: Badge Bracers, Gauntlets of Enforcement, Pendant of Titans

Armor: 1806
Stamina: 158
Str: 0
Dodge Rating: 25
Block Rating: 0
Block Value: 36
Defense Rating: 76 (3.8% Avoidance)
Expertise Rating: 43
Hit Rating: 20
Tank Points: 38797

Combo Three: Eternium Shell Bracers, Gaunlets of Enforcement, Badge Neck

Armor: 1875
Stamina: 170
Str: 0
Dodge Rating: 26
Block Rating: 0
Block Value: 36
Defense Rating: 56 (2.8% Avoidance)
Expertise Rating: 42
Hit Rating: 22
Tank Points: 36585

Now you may be wondering what that tank points thing is at the bottom of each. It is a mod that calculates your total melee damage reduction based off your armor,dodge,parry,block...etc (Can be found here: http://files.wowace.com/TankPoints/Tank" target="_blank ... 6532.2.zip )

Basic conclusion, combo two is the best choice. Why? Because of all the defense rating you are getting with those items compared to the other two, it offsets the avoidance that is on the T6 gloves. And even the third combo is still overall better than the one with T6 gloves. All the raid items for the neck/wrist/T6 gloves will always be better for your avoidance set though, so plan on hopefully getting both of each eventually :P

On another note, I wish I had gotten a styleens from BWL but sigh I never did. Oh well. Technically shield block rating isn't super important because you don't need 25% to be uncrushable, as long as my avoidance stuff is high to offset it I should be fine for whenever I upgrade my legs.
